Haydn in Chingford

The Altenburg Ensemble enjoyed a successful performance on Saturday 15th of March in Chingford. They performed with the Forest Choir in performances of Josef Haydn's Theresienmesse and Michael Haydn's Requiem.

This Altenburg Ensemble featured Katie Hodges, Russell Gilmour, Stephen Gilbey and Dominic Cotton with Stephen Burke on Timpani. The trumpeters and kettledrums opened the concert with a fanfare and chorale which were both composed by Johann Ernst Altenburg. The gap between the two pieces was skilfully bridged by Stephen Burke on Timpani, who performed an ornamentation of the bass line while the trumpeters changed crooks and prepared their semitone transposing mutes for the chorale.
